Welcome to the NUA Information Site!
We hope that you find this site informative and that you can join us in our aim to rectify a serious genetic defect in our breed. The integration of Dalmatians with the gene for Normal Uric Acid levels (NUA Dalmatians) into British, Irish and continental European bloodlines will not only help spread the healthy NUA gene but also increase the breed's genetic diversity.
The aim of the NUA Project in the UK is to eliminate the Dalmatian's predisposition to form urate stones and crystals by replacing the defective gene that causes it.
Most Dalmatians never have an obstruction from urate stones or sludge but those who do, suffer greatly and may die if not given prompt veterinary treatment.
We recognise that this is only one consideration that goes into the breeding of a healthy, typical Dalmatian.
If you have any questions about NUA Dalmatians and the project, please contact us here.
